Come to Tanera for a week in September to reawaken and stimulate your creativity with writer and retreat facilitator Mandy Haggith.

This retreat week is a chance to step away from the pressures of normal life, escape to a peaceful island environment, indulge your senses and allow your creativity to regenerate. It is A view from behind the Schoolhousean ideal opportunity to make a big step forward with a creative project, to start something new or just to recharge your batteries.

Each morning, Mandy will lead a creative warm-up session, giving you an opportunity to flex your writing muscles and get inspiration flowing with morning pages and simple exercises. There will be a daily programme of mini-workshops and activity walks, with lots of free time for you to kick back and enjoy the island, or to beaver away in your room. Mandy will be on hand to provide one-to-one feedback on your writing or other creative projects.

There will be a menu of ideas for ‘creative dates’ for you to take up, if you choose, allowing you to spend time with local people or indulge in aThe Schoolhouse new experience. These could include a chance to meet a local artist, a sailing lesson, or time out on the water in a kayak, and if something takes your fancy that is not on the menu, please don’t hesitate to ask.

During the week, everything is optional, but it’s good to have options. You can use the week as an uninterrupted slice of space and time to focus on something you are working on, or you can take part in every activity on offer – or anything in between!

The only fixed point of each day is dinner around 7.30 pm. Typically, we’ll gather beforehand for a pre-dinner drink and a chat. After eating a delicious meal of local produce togThe cosy Schoolhouse kitchenether we’ll relax by the fireside in the Schoolhouse and share experiences, the work of the day, ideas or favourite poems, songs and stories. If you play an instrument, feel free to bring it along.

The warm-up and workshop sessions will be in the Schoolhouse - a lovely house with views across Badentarbet bay and the iconic Assynt mountain peaks of Stac Polliadh, Suilven and Quinag beyond. Breakfasts and lunches are on a self-service basis, helping yourself from the well-stocked kitchens or visiting the café beside the sea, as and when you like.

The cost of the course with full board is £525 per person (including transport from mainland, materials, tuition, food and accommodation). This includes a room to yourself, but if two people wish to come together and share a room, the cost is £995 for two. You can extend your week to include the night of Friday 9 September for just £60 per person. Some creative dates will incur additional cost. New price - £495 for a single room; £940 for two sharing.

Mandy has been leading writing and creative retreats and workshops since 2005. Her novel The Last Bear won the 2009 Robin Jenkins Literary Award for writing about nature.
